Saint Francis University

The mission of the Science Outreach Center at SFU is to develop relevant, effective, and systemic efforts to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the community; increase the number of students pursuing an education in STEM fields; and support K-12 schools and their students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Core programs include the Central Pennsylvania STEM Initiative, credit-granting Summer Academies in science, engineering, and computer gaming for high school students, MSP SEEDS (Math and Science Partnership:  STEM Engaging Educators in Design-based Science), in partnership with IU8, for improving science content knowledge for 6-9 teachers, the Pennsylvania Statistics Poster Competition for students in K-12, and Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (ROCK). Events are offered throughout the year for students and teachers in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Please check our upcoming events section for more information.

Headwaters to Estuaries Watershed Institute

A compilation of scenes from the Headwaters to Estuaries Summer Watershed Institute which focused on issues associated with acid mine drainage and riparian zones of streams within local watersheds, nutrient impact on the Raystown Lake as a model for the Chesapeake Bay, estuarine environments of the Chesapeake Bay, and marine environments in and around Wallops Island, VA.
