Special Circumstance Form
Special Consideration Evaluation Forms are used by Saint Francis University as an opportunity to reexamine changes to your income situation reported on the current year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The University can reevaluate your situation based on either the current calendar (January 1st - December 31st) or fiscal (July 1st - June 30th) year.
Examples of acceptable considerations involve: reduction in income, unemployment, retirement, unreimbursed medical expenses (the expenses cannot be itemized on a prior tax return), private tuition paid to an elementary or secondary educational institution or necessary home repairs (must be completed and paid), divorce, separation or death.
Examples of unacceptable considerations involve: reduction in investments (property, investment portfolio, etc.), expenses paid for other siblings at a post-secondary school, credit card debt, car insurance, mortgage payments etc. These are lifestyle choices and cannot be utilized in the recalculation of federal aid eligibility.
All information submitted should be supported with proper documentation: letter of release from employer, unemployment compensation documentation, receipts or condensed printouts (medical, private tuition or home repair), legal separation or divorce documentation, pay stubs received in the current reevaluated year.
The requested information should be returned to our office, with a typed cover letter stating the special circumstance, as soon as possible. Once our office receives the information requested, your financial aid eligibility will be reevaluated.
