Math 106 Students Pi Day 2011

Pi Day (March 14 as the popular and irrational mathematical constant 3.14) gave the mathematics department an opportunity to share sweet treats, socialize, and mathematics education with the campus community. A large number of round pies were consumed by the many who visited during the day at this annual event. Students from Dr. Katherine Remillard’s MATH 106 Elementary Mathematics course demonstrated various ways to estimate pi. Topics covered were Pi Line, Archimedes’ Recipe for Pi, the AquaDom, and the Circle of Pi.  The math students also collected donations for the Japan earthquake disaster relief fund.

Pi Day 2010

Saint Francis Mathematics majors celebrating Pi Day. The celebration included eating pie, demonstrations, and discussing the relevance of Pi. Interesting fact about Pi Day: On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed
HRES 224 recognizing March 14, 2009, as National Pi Day.
