Mathematics Program

Advantages of the Saint Francis University Mathematics Program!Small Classes

Flexible Curriculum Track
While working toward a bachelor of arts or science degree in mathematics, students can concentrate in computer science, become a secondary education teacher by choosing a secondary education concentration, or focus exclusively on the mathematics curriculum.

  Options!
In addition, students can readily opt to double major in mathematics and another discipline, for example chemistry, biology, or computer science--a strong plus for future careers or graduate school.

Uniqueness
Our mathematics program, involving an intimate usage of computer technology, is blended with a strong, dynamic, and innovative General Education Program that prepares our students to communicate effectively and to think critically--essential skills that are neccesary to be successful in the modern-day workforce.

Hands-on Learning
Hands-on learning enables students to bring classroom theories and methods to life through graphing calculators, computer simulations, and visualizations.

Small Class Sizes
Our small class sizes ensure personal attention in teaching and advising for close interaction.

Experienced and Qualified Faculty
Our faculty is dedicated, innovative, and highly qualified. Their experience in applied and theoretical mathematics offers our students a strong mathematics foundation and a high quality education.

Opportunities
Our students are highly successful in obtaining exciting and significant internship placements at numerous institutions and companies. Examples include The Pennsylvania State University, AT&T, University of Utah, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Sound Communications, Center of Excellence for Medically Under-Served Areas (CERMUSA), etc.

 Comprehensive Mathematical Base
A comprehensive mathematical base is provided that covers the major areas of mathematics, both applied and abstract. Calculus, Statistics, Probability, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Logic and Set Theory, Geometry, Topology, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, and Vector Analysis are some of the areas in mathematics that you will have an opportunity to explore. Past external reviews have praised the solid foundation provided by the department's curriculum.

Recognition of Achievement
Recognition of achievement is given through student awards that include the James Lieb Memorial Award, the Mathematics Department Award, and induction into the Kappa Mu Epsilon National Honor Society for Mathematics Excellence.

The MECS Club, Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science
The MECS club at Saint Francis University made is up of mathematics, computer science, and engineering majors. Their mission is to advance student learning experiences through speakers, community service projects and field visits to industrial sites, graduate schools and conferences. The MECS club is also highly active in tutoring students on campus.
