In keeping with "Service to the Poor and Needy", one of the Franciscan Goals of Higher Education, Saint Francis has expanded its work to reach as far away as Honduras and other countries. What was your service opportunity?
Teaching the 1st and 2nd Grade in Guatemala and Honduras
How did this service opportunity affect your life?
I went down to Guatemala and Honduras not knowing fully what I would be doing, what the school would be like, or who I'd meet. I made invaluable friendships, met some extraordinary people, and saw some amazing things. I will never forget the kids that I taught.
What is your favorite memory during the service opportunity?
Seeing my kids' eyes light up whenever they figured something out. It may have been something as simple as learning how to add 2 + 2, but it made me so proud when they finally understood. |
