Hydro power uses the flow of water to turn a turbine that generates electricity. To take advantage of this form of renewable energy, you need a flow of water, a river, stream, water line, etc. that provides a sufficient water flow rate and head. Head is the vertical distance between where you would divert the water to your turbine and where it would re-emerge to be joined back with the original water source. You can have heads as low as 6 feet, but you will need to have relatively high flow rates to generate any significant power. The river or stream can be diverted to flow through a turbine or in cases with an existing dam, small turbines can be added. Small or micro hydro is also used in municipal water systems in place of pressure reducers. The equation for estimating power for small and micro hydro systems: Head (feet) x Flow (US gpm) / 10 = Output (Watts) Learn more |

Products & Services
A Micro-Hydro Turbine uses water from a stream, pond or lake to generate electricity. When these systems are installed properly they can generate electric power 24/7. A Micro-Hydro system requires a very site specific location that can provide an adequate supply of water and developed head pressure to feed the turbine. We have access to many manufacturers of these turbines from small to commercial size electric output. Each micro-hydro turbine system is designed and installed specifically for one intended site location.
Certifications
K.C. Larson has all certifications and licenses required in the state of PA.
