OASIS Program
| The Opportunities for Academic Success in Studies (OASIS) Program is designed to assist first year students who have not yet fully developed their academic potential. The program provides academic assistance and support services to enhance student growth, success, and persistence toward attaining a college degree. Although the support programming and services are important factors for success, the motivation to take advantage of them comes from within the student. Ultimately, student success is the responsibility of each student; however, the OASIS Program serves as a facilitator for this process. |
All students participating in the OASIS Program register as full-time students for both the Fall and Spring semesters of the first year. Students are expected to meet with their OASIS counselor on a monthly basis throughout their first year at Saint Francis University.
Depicted below is a typical schedule for an OASIS student.

Registration for spring courses is completed midway through the fall semester. Continued participation in the OASIS Program during the spring semester is dependent upon the student's Quality Point Average (QPA) at the end of the fall semester.
Academic Advising/Counseling
The OASIS Program counselors offer developmental academic counseling on an individual basis. Regular meetings are arranged. Discussion topics include adjustment to college, interpretation of assessments, academic planning, and social/personal issues.
Study Skills and University Reading (General Studies 111 and 112)
All OASIS students are required to register for these courses for the fall and spring semesters. Students complete a variety of assessments to determine academic strengths and weaknesses. Students learn and practice strategies to improve their academic performance. These courses offered through the OASIS Program will strengthen the students' skills in future classes.
Informational Workshops
Informational workshops are provided through General Studies 111 and 112 during the fall and spring semesters and through special programs.
Peer Tutorials
Tutoring provides students with a structured and supervised learning environment. Weekly tutoring sessions are mandatory during both the fall and spring semesters. Peer tutors offer students individual instruction and guidance in developing effective study techniques that encourage students to become independent learners.
Resource Library
The Resource Library provides a variety of materials on study skills, college adjustment issues, career planning, and other topics related to student success in college.
Writing Center
The Writing Specialist works with students through all stages of the writing process from thesis generation to conclusion. The Writing Specialist follows a non-directive approach to tutoring and guides students on a variety of writing projects. Students utilize the Writing Center through walk-in hours or by individual appointments.
