The Mission Statement of the History ProgramThe mission of the History faculty, housed within the Department of History and Political Science, is to serve major and non-major students. The History courses included in the General Education program introduce non major students to fundamental factual knowledge and general methodology. The historians offer a wide variety of advanced-level topical, methodological and capstone courses to its majors and also to students fulfilling collateral and elective requirements. The department’s courses stress primary sources, factual knowledge, analytical thought, interpretation of evidence, research and evaluation of sources, and written and oral communication skills. History majors pursue BA degrees. Secondary education certification, the Pre-Law program and historical field specialties are available to students. The history curriculum is designed to provide all of its students with the knowledge base and skill sets needed to succeed in the work place, scholastic environment and graduate or law school.

- A dedicated faculty with academic expertise and professional experience
- Personal advising from summer orientation to graduation
- Co-curricular opportunities through the History Club, the Pre-Law Club and the Quadrennial Mock Convention
- History Fellowship opportunities of $8,000 ($2,000 each year for four years)
- Internship opportunities from Cambria County to Washington, DC and exciting student teaching opportunities for History/Secondary Education majors locally
