Red Flash Fall in Four Sets vs. UC-San Diego, Set To Face Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Jordan Varee (Conneautville, Pa. / Conneaut Valley) hit .353 with 18 kills and two blocks and junior Nick Rivett (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) added 12 kills, three blocks, and six digs, but the Saint Francis men’s volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision against UC-San Diego on Friday night, during the first day of the 2009 Volleyball Hall of Fame/Morgan Classic.
The Red Flash hit .291 as a team, but the Titons hit .463 and had 11 aces in the 30-20, 33-35, 30-27, 30-18 victory. Saint Francis will now play Springfield at 6 p.m. Saturday night. The Pride dropped a 3-0 match against George Mason in the other semifinal.
Junior Pete Freyer (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) pounded nine kills while hitting .538 to go with six blocks and one ace, while senior setter Shane Conley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) dished out 48 assists.
